A New Chapter of Hope in Ndumberi: Children’s Community Center Grand Opening

Celebrating God’s Provision and Partnership

After five years of faithful fundraising, tireless construction, and eager anticipation, the dream of a new Ndumberi Children’s Community Center became reality last month in Kenya! The grand opening was a joyful celebration of God’s provision and the power of partnership.

Key leaders and friends gathered to mark this milestone—representatives from Expansion International’s USA and Africa boards and staff, Mission Team members from the U.S., local church members, the PEFA Mercy Ministries Board, Compassion International Kenya, the Children’s Community Center Board and staff, and many community supporters. Together, they lifted prayers of thanksgiving, honored the generosity and commitment that made this project possible, and rejoiced in the impact this center will bring to children and families for years to come.

Following the ribbon cutting, guests toured the beautiful new facility, a tangible symbol of hope and transformation for the Ndumberi community.

Ndumberi: A Community of Resilience and Growth

Ndumberi is a vibrant town of more than 22,000 people and one of eight communities in Kenya where Expansion International serves. Despite its growth, the area has faced significant social and economic challenges over the years.

The Children’s Center was first established in 1995 as a simple feeding program for 75 children, supported by the PEFA Church and PEFA Mercy Ministries. What began as a small act of compassion has since grown into a vital hub for feeding and education.

Today, the center reaches over 350 children, far beyond the limits of its original facility. This incredible growth created the urgent need for a larger, more functional, and inclusive space to serve the entire community.

Thanks to two years of faithful fundraising by Expansion International and PEFA Mercy Ministries, construction began in June 2022 and was completed this year. The new facility is more than a building, it is a beacon of hope, designed to empower families to break free from poverty through spiritual, physical, and vocational support in a safe, Christ‑centered environment.

Designed to serve the whole community, the new Children’s Community Center offers a wide range of programs that empower children, families, and adults to thrive.

• ­ Spiritual training for children

• ­ Afterschool and weekend classes for preschool, primary, and high school students

• ­ Counseling for children, parents, and students

• ­ Vocational and computer training opportunities

• ­ A library with computers and research space

• ­ Recreational and community event facilities

•  Safe rooms for children rescued from abusive situations

• ­ Adult education in parenting and life skills including financial literacy

• ­ Nutritious meal preparation and hygiene training
