A Seed Planted in Faith, Now Blooming in Meridian: The Story Behind Two Mustard Seeds Boutique

After years of dreaming, planning, and praying, the doors to Two Mustard Seeds Boutique are finally opening, and with them, a new chapter in a mission that began with a dream in the night.

The Seed Was Planted

In 2012, during a mission retreat in Kenya, Dr. Marietta Thompson, Expansion International’s first Medical Director, was stirred awake by a divine message. God spoke of “precious pearls,” the young people of Kenya, and asked a simple but profound question: “Are you willing to donate your treasured possessions to provide hope and a future for My precious children?”

That moment planted the seed. Inspired by the parable in Matthew 17, Marietta envisioned a sale where women could donate their most treasured items to help fund high school sponsorships for Kenyan teens. Thus, the idea of Two Mustard Seeds was born, one seed representing a local Kenyan church’s sponsorship, and the other a matching sponsorship funded through selling donated treasures.

A Vision That Grew

In 2013, the first resale event took place at Eagle Nazarene Church. It quickly blossomed into a beloved annual tradition. Volunteers rallied, donations poured in, and shoppers showed up in droves. Over the years, more than 2,000 teens received sponsorships through Expansion International’s Two Mustard Seeds program.

Yet Marietta’s vision extended beyond a yearly event. She dreamed of a permanent boutique, a place where the mission could live and breathe every day.

The Boutique Becomes Reality

In late 2023, that vision took root in Meridian, Idaho. A property was purchased and lovingly remodeled into what is now the Two Mustard Seeds Boutique, a women's resale shop with a purpose. Every item sold supports education for Kenyan teens, while also offering Boise Valley women a meaningful place to volunteer and connect.

This boutique isn’t just a store, it’s a symbol of faith, community, and transformation. It’s proof that small seeds, when nurtured with love and purpose, can grow into something mighty.
